While most Wichitans spent yesterday in the air conditioning or water, 110 men and women from the aviation community battled the heat, and each other, in the inaugural Wichita Aero Club Golf Classic. Players enjoyed Crestview Country Club’s North Course, which is in tournament-ready condition for this week’s Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open.

It’s a Birdie, It’s a Plane

One of the highlights of the event was watching a Cessna Skycatcher piloted by Kirby Ortega fly over the 18th green chalet during the cocktail hour and land on the 18th fairway. Owner Rose Pelton and her husband Jack Pelton, Cessna CEO and president, marshaled it in to position and let spectators get an up close look at the plane. Leave it to the Aero Club to find a way to bring aviation to the golf course.
