On the same day that Todd booked a vacation through Travelocity.com, he paid his bills through his bank’s online bill pay, posted a few comments on a webmaster blog he frequents, and played an online game with a friend of his in Russia. He also jumped on eBay to bid on a gift for his wife, whom he first met…online. Are you seeing a pattern here?

Todd embraces all things interactive. He brings to Greteman Group a wealth of knowledge, from HTML and database programming, to email marketing and online advertising. He keeps up on the latest Internet trends with funny names like Twitter. (Do you Twitter?) He’s passionate about information architecture and usability. “The coolest, most well designed website is worthless unless the people that visit can make sense of the site and easily find what they’re looking for.”

Graduating with a degree in design from Pittsburg State University, Todd was very involved with the new concepts of computerized graphic design and multimedia. “I'd always been fascinated by what was possible with computers,” he says. He created his first multimedia project in 1987, using a tiny black-and-white Macintosh Plus and painstakingly drawing each frame on the computer by hand. It was a learning experience that he would prefer not to repeat.

Todd joined Greteman Group in 1993 and worked on multimedia projects such as promotional CD-ROMs and kiosks. Then in the mid ’90s things began to change. “I realized pretty quickly that the Internet was going to be a huge force in communications." He took it upon himself to learn everything there was to know about the new medium.

Todd helped bring Greteman Group online, making us the first advertising agency in the region to offer in-house web development. Greteman Group has gone on to provide enewsletters, online surveys, interactive ads and ecards.

“You have to stay on top on developments and use that knowledge to sense where things are going so clients are taking optimal advantage of new opportunities,” he says. “You also have to make sure you don’t get clients so far out in front that the technology hasn’t yet caught up.”

Todd shares his hard-won knowledge with clients, team members – and the next generation of savvy interactive designers. He’s taught interactive design, HTML programming, and Flash at the Wichita Area Technical College, where he also served as the faculty advisory board president. When not doing some sort of online cyber-techy ething, Todd loves to spend time with his wife and baby boy. His son can’t talk yet but already loves the animated games and activities found on kansaschildren.org, a site Todd designed. Like father, like son?
