Sonia Greteman has one fewer bucket item list

Taking a trip to Egypt has been on Sonia Greteman’s bucket list for about 30 years.
Now, the president and creative director of the Greteman Group has one fewer item on that list after a trip there earlier this year.
The trip was the culmination of years of planning, three unsuccessful attempts to go and a lifetime of anticipation.
Greteman shared some details of her Egyptian vacation in a recent blog post and this week with the Wichita Business Journal.
“It was actually the trip of a lifetime,” Greteman says. “With what was going on politically there, we were looking at history but also the future.”
Greteman first planned her dream trip to Egypt 10 years ago, but it didn’t work out. After that, the closest Greteman got was last year when she and her husband were on their way to the airport to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Egypt.
At the last minute, however, they were notified that their long-awaited trip had been canceled.
“The (Egyptian) government had taken down the Internet and Tahrir Square was in the middle of a full-blown uprising,” Greteman says.
Greteman decided to give the trip one more shot a year later, which in and of itself was uncertain because of all the unrest in Egypt.
Greteman says her trip proves that the perceptions that Egypt is unsafe for tourists are untrue.
“We witnessed a country hungry for tourism dollars and a people ready to build a democracy,” Greteman wrote in her blog.
Highlights of her trip included a tour of the Temple of Karnak at Luxor, traveling the Nile valley, exploring the temples and tombs and, of course, seeing the world-famous Egyptian Pyramids.
