Have a Wild Time in Your Own Back Yard
Our Nuts for Nature book is filled with simple projects that can make back yards havens for creatures great and small, as well as cultivate an appreciation for the outdoors, especially in increasingly technology-tied children. The kit includes a copy of the Nuts for Nature book and plenty of critter fodder to keep your new backyard friends full and happy.
A portion of the proceeds from both the book and the kit will go to Roots & Shoots of South Central Kansas.
“Nuts for Nature encourages you to invite the outdoors back into your life,” Sonia says. “With a little imagination and planning you can make your back yard a welcoming, wondrous place. We hope to spur Wichitans young and old to action. Then, after making your own backyard habitat, think about connecting with a Roots & Shoots group in your area. It’s fun to get some dirt under your nails.”
Roots & Shoots, a program of the Jane Goodall Institute, sponsors a global network of 8,000 groups working to improve our world through service and learning projects that promote care and concern for animals, the environment and the human community.
To help you make the transition from your computer mouse to a garden trowel, the Nuts for Nature campaign includes a free, interactive Web site. The site invites children and adults to navigate a rich online environment and create their own backyard paradises.
The Nuts for Nature project grew out of Greteman Group’s desire to help build a garden and wildlife habitat on the grounds of the Boys and Girls Club in northeast Wichita. The garden is progressing rapidly thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Boys and Girls Club, Roots & Shoots of South Central Kansas, Sedgwick County Zoo Roots & Shoots, Greteman Group and numerous local contributors.
You can give the animals in your back yard something to croak, chirp or chatter about by purchasing the Nuts for Nature book or kit on Greteman Group’s website or in the Exploration Place Explore Store.
