Sonia Named as a Top Business Leader
Our own Sonia Greteman is one of Wichita’s top business leaders of the past 20 years, according to a special publication of the Wichita Business Journal. The Journal also names Sonia No. 2 on its list of influential business women and among the top 10 professional services leaders, recognizing her remarkable achievements in the tough world of entrepreneurial business. The Journal notes that Sonia has built the agency from its founding in 1989 as a design firm to a full-service agency with $26 million in annual capitalized billings with a long list of national and international clients. The G-Cups
The Greteman Group knows how to stand out in a crowd. In fact, at this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, our team, The G-Cups, won the “Team that Stands Out Most in the Crowd” award. With all those bedazzling pink bras, that was kind of a no-brainer. The real reward, of course, was supporting an important cause and having a good time while doing it. Thirty employees and friends put their best, er, feet forward to participate in the event.

Mergers and Acquisitions
Chris Parks and Chaney Kimball are passionate about creative. They founded Up Design Bureau in Wichita to pursue their passion and built a strong niche with local and national clients. But they were less than thrilled with the nitty-gritty of entrepreneurship. We were looking for top creative talent. The logic was inescapable. Both Chris and Chaney bring strong creative and solid experience. Chris, who joins us as a senior art director, provides expertise in identity and brand development, print design, 3D and environmental design and illustration. Behind his laid-back exterior, interactive designer Chaney hides formidable talent in web applications such as Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Together, they strengthen an already strong creative team at Greteman. And they won’t mind relinquishing a few of the chores to others. Such as estimating, purchasing, billing, accounting, payroll, taxes.

Saint by Sarah Jane
Character forged in the Midwest. Dreams nurtured in Paris. Imagination fired in the arid Southwest. Sarah Jane inspires loyalty, even devotion, from collectors nationwide. Each of her richly handcrafted designs in silver, gold and precious gemstones has special meaning, and she’s ready to share those Stories with a broader audience. Saint’s new brand emphasizes the meticulous care and soul embedded in every bracelet, every necklace. A reinvigorated website debuts early this year, introducing the world of Saint to the world at large. A new press kit reflects the friendly, nature-based essence of her jewelry. It all coalesced in a perfect photo shoot, directed by Sonia, of angels inspired by Mother Earth and looking – Saintly.

Nomar: Cultural Authenticity
The challenge: create a brand identity for Wichita's culturally rich but economically challenged international market district around 21st and Broadway. Our first task was to find a name that resonates with area residents, has meaning and is easy to say. Nomar, short for North Market, fulfills those requirements and has historical cachet, having long served as an informal designation for the area. The Nomar Theater’s Spanish-revival architecture inspired the graphics, which show strong Mexican character with Asian influences and a hint of Moorish mystery. Together, the name and graphics evoke thoughts of authentic international cuisine, multicultural charm, handmade crafts, indigenous art. A marketing plan, website and ad campaign template will further hasten the transformation into a vibrant destination for neighborhood residents as well as discerning folks from around Wichita and the region.

We Gave Outside the Office
This holiday season, instead of exchanging gifts within the office, we decided to spread a little Christmas cheer. Three teams conceived secret plans to take on a meaningful, charitable project. The company gave each team money to spend or donate, but it was much more about service and making connections. It made for a Christmas none of us will forget. One team put together stockings of fun and useful items for every resident of a nursing home, then delivered the stockings and spent time sharing stories and laughter. Another team volunteered at a center that distributes coats, food and other necessities to those in need. They also wandered the city dispensing random acts of holiday joy. The third team helped second graders at the Boys and Girls Club make pet toys, then jumped on a bus to take the toys to the Human Society, where they got to share what they’d made with dogs and cats awaiting adoption. As often happens, we gained far more than we gave, and, best of all, we’ve pledged to continue our volunteer efforts throughout 2007.

 | The Results Are In
Our last newsletter asked: What percent of your marketing dollars will you spend online this year? Here’s the final tally:
 |
|
None – 39%
Up to 25% – 7%
25 - 50 – 7%
50 - 75 – 8%
75 + – 18% |
Frankly, we’re a little surprised by the large percentage in the “zero” column. While the right mix is obviously different from one business to the next, it’s hard to imagine many enterprises these days that wouldn’t benefit from some level of online presence. It reaches customers who are actively looking for solutions. Make sure they find yours. Whether it’s strategic use of search engines, a well-placed ad or a sharp, up-to-date website, savvy use of the Internet promises a solid return on your investment.
